East JROTC wins Warrior Challenge

Cranston High School East Army JROTC won the 6th annual JROTC “Warrior Challenge” sponsored by the Rhode Island Army National Guard on Saturday, April 28.

The competition has R.I. JROTC programs from all branches of the service face one another in head-to-head competitions to see who is recognized as the best JROTC program in Rhode Island. 

Participating programs this year were: Cranston East Army JROTC; Hope Army JROTC; Rogers Army JROTC; Tolman Marine Corps JROTC; Coventry Navy JROTC; Woonsocket Air Force JROTC; and the R.I. Civil Air Patrol.

The competition was built around 11 events which JROTC teams rotated through: The one-rope bridge, group one-mile run, Obstacle Course, The sit-up / pull up event, First Aide event, Sked pull, M998 push / push up event, Rock wall climb, X-country rescue, X-country scavenge hunt and field problem-solving exercise.  

Cranston East JROTC participated with two teams consisting of 20 Cadets. The two Cranston teams combined to win seven out of the 11 events. Additionally, Cranston Cadet Jeremiah Cosme won Cadet “Top Honors.”

Cadets East Warrior Challenge Cadets were:

1st Platoon:  Chenda Rivera, Jesahia Quiroa, Shanelly Guzman, Branson Vargas, Samuel Villeda, Eric Testa, Rossevelt Charles, Joe Bellotti, Jadin Gagnon, Paola Henry-Mejia, Matthew LaForge, Miliedy Urizar, Jacob Bullard, Yessica Acosta and Genesis Aldana. 

2nd Platoon:  Jeremiah Cosme, Dennis Montalvo, Pedro Saravia, Robert Josephson, Karl Oung, Erink Mena, Jessica Taing, Joe Healey, Aaron Mickelson, Alexandra Jones, Chris Garcia, Geryl Vargas and Alexander Shaw.
