Elvis stars at Chapel View Shaw's re-opening

Posted

There are all kinds of employees. Some who just do the job, others who are dedicated, and then there are those who go above and beyond the call of duty.

To say that Steve Quirini falls into the latter category would be an understatement.

For starters, Quirini has been employed by Shaw’s Supermarkets since October 1988. He’s currently the deli manager at the Medway, Mass. store and his tenure with the popular chain has taken him through stores in Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Just last week, Quirini performed a rather special duty during the grand re-opening of the Shaw’s Supermarket located at 8 Chapel View Boulevard in Cranston.

This time, Quirini didn’t fill any deli order or anything like that.

During an event that featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the introduction of new product lines amid the store’s new layout and larger displays as well as Shaw’s officials making contributions to several area non-profits, Quirini stole the show and attracted a rather large audience as well.

Quirini, you see, is one of Rhode Island’s premiere Elvis Presley impersonators and has an extensive wardrobe – which he wore during last week’s re-opening – to go along with his talented voice.

“Singing,” people like Quirini’s long-time friends, Johnston residents Vinny and Elly Palumbo will tell you, “is Steve’s passion.”

Moreover, Quirini is the headliner for Starzz Entertainment and does a variety of shows based on his favorite musician of all time, Elvis Presley.

“He absolutely loves performing and taking photos with his many fans,” Lisa D’Ambra, a managing official with Starzz Entertainment, said. “And his audiences really, really enjoy his shows and often marvel as his many different types of attire.”

The same held true during Shaw’s opening when Quirini sang songs – in a stunning white Elvis outfit – and later posed for photos with a number of shoppers and employees at the Chapel View store.

Perhaps even more impressive is that Quirini – and Starzz Entertainment – as well as people like the Palumbo's and another small group of close-knit friends has raised over $55,000 for the Voluntary Services Department at the Providence VA Medical Center in Providence.

That extraordinary total, as well as funds organizations have raised during Quirini-led and Starzz Entertainment shows, is approximately $90,000.
