Festival Ballet presents 'Game Changers'

The expressive music of electric violinist Josh Knowles rings through The Vets in Providence for one weekend only.

Like a music video come to life, the Boston-based singer/songwriter and his entire band will accompany Rhode Island’s professional ballet company, Festival Ballet Providence, in a world premiere contemporary ballet entitled “Same.” In tandem with the release of Knowles’ latest album How Deep the Dark, “Same” is presented as part of the company’s triple bill program, “Game Changers,” running February 7-9. This bold new work comes as a collaboration with celebrated contemporary ballet choreographer Yury Yanowsky.

Spanish choreographer and a former principal dancer with Boston Ballet, Yanowsky brings his experience as an international performing artist to Providence with an eclectic choreographic style that combines an avant garde vision with careful attention to musical detail, allowing the audience to visualize Knowles’ music and listen like never before. Knowles will join the dancers onstage during the performance, demonstrating the powerful connection between movement and music.

“Game Changers” will also feature world premiere works by former Alvin Ailey Dance Theater artist Christopher Huggins in his Rhode Island debut and Tony Award winning choreographer Christopher Wheeldon. You don’t want to miss this celebration of live music and dance.

Tickets start at just $24. Check out Josh Knowles’ latest single “Same” on Spotify now.
