To the Editor:
Requiring homeowners to fix their own sidewalks (“Shared Cost Sidewalk Program Has Few Takers,” Dec. 8) makes about as much sense as it would to charge them for the portion of the street that runs by their house. Walkable sidewalks are everyone’s business, just like clean water, good schools and decent roads.
As a Cranston homeowner who lives on a street without sidewalks but who regularly walks around town, I would gladly see my tax dollars go towards this essential infrastructure.
