Gas prices down 1 cent

Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are down one cent this week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA Northeast’s October 15 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.49 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is 15 cents below the national average of $2.64. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 35 cents higher at $2.84 per gallon.

“The national gas price average has been gradually decreasing the past three weeks and we expect this trend to continue, barring any major industry or geopolitical events,” said Lloyd Albert, Senior Vice President of AAA Public and Government Affairs. “But the real savings we’re seeing is when prices are compared to this same time last year. Drivers in some states are paying 40 cents less per gallon than they were last October.”

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 34 cents, from a low of $2.35 to a high of $2.69. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area.
