Gerald W. "Jerry" Masse

Gerard W. "Jerry" Masse, 91, of Cranston, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 29, 2018. He was the husband of Anna M. Masse for 62 years.

Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, he moved to Rhode Island 55 years ago. He was the son of the late Ernest J. and Elizabeth (Cohen) Masse. He enjoyed making chocolates for his family, friends and neighbors.

During his retirement he collected over 200,000 soda tabs to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. He was the former president of the bowling league at Town Hall Lanes in Johnston for over 30 years. He was also a president of the advisory board at the Cranston Senior Center and sat on their board for several years. Gerard retired from North Safety as a machinist 30 years ago after successfully completing Boy’s Trade School in Worcester. He was also a World War II Navy veteran.

He was the father of Robert Masse and his wife, Gertrude, Donald Masse and his wife, Gloria, and Beth Masse. He was the brother of Richard Masse and his wife, Sandra, and was the brother of the late Dot Pelkey. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Shawn, William, Andrea and Christopher.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 2 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Matthew Church, Cranston. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visitation will be held on Thursday morning prior to the Mass in The Butterfield Chapel, 500 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston, beginning at 9 a.m.
