Multicultural Literacy Night was held at Gladstone Street Elementary School on the evening of April 11 to celebrate the school’s diversity through multicultural projects and literature.
The evening included a Multicultural Parade, with all the students holding up their projects for all to see. They were given a choice of several multicultural projects to complete at home and showcase in the parade.
The event was planned by Jackie Cambio and Holly Loffredo, the two ESL Collaborative teachers, along with Grace Swinski from COZ and the rest of the Multicultural Literacy Committee.
Students walked around the auditorium while singing a version of “We’ve Got the Whole World in Our Hands,” accompanied by Daniel George, Gladstone’s music teacher, and the fifth-grade chorus.
“I am so proud of all the students who shared their cultures with us through their amazing projects so that we could all celebrate the diversity in our school,” Cambio said.
The PTG supplied refreshments for the event and there were also cookies donated by Solitro’s Bakery. Classroom teachers from each grade level planned and led the activities for the students and their parents.
The end of the night included refreshments and a raffle of picture books donated by COZ.
