Green Development, the company behind a range of wind and solar energy projects across the state – including the wind turbines near the Central Landfill in Johnston – is moving its headquarters to Chapel View.

According to a Tuesday press release, Green Development – currently based in North Kingstown – will occupy the fifth and sixth floors of 2000 Chapel View Boulevard. The space is currently being renovated and the company expects to take occupancy by Dec. 7.

The release indicates that the company had been designing a new headquarters in North Kingstown in recent months, but opted instead to sign a 10-year lease at the Chapel View location “to accommodate their growing staff and operations in a timelier manner.” The new space will provide more than 22,000 square feet, compared to the 5,600 square feet at the current headquarters.

“The increased space will accommodate my entire development team as we had simply outgrown our existing headquarters,” Mark DePasquale, Green Development’s chairman and founder, said in the release. “The move to Cranston will also allow us to be more centrally located to our projects. At Green, our focus is developing renewable energy projects that benefit Rhode Island while providing a great working environment for our employees. The move to Chapel View provides us that opportunity to support our employees with the creative space required to achieve our goals.”

DePasquale also said the company is “committed to keeping our headquarters in Rhode Island.”

In the release, K. MacArthur Coates, president and CEO of Carpionato Group – which owns Chapel View – called Green Development “one of the region’s fastest growing renewable energy generators and developers.”

“Since its inception, Chapel View has been an incubator for economic development, and the decision by Green Development to locate here is validation that our mix of retail, office and living space all in one area is what innovative companies are looking for when seeking to expand,” he said.

According to the release, Green Development currently employs 56 people full time and plans to hire four additional full-time workers by the end of September. The company also utilizes more than 100 subcontractors in support of its projects across 15 Rhode Island communities.

The release states that Green Development will continue to utilize its North Kingstown location as an operations center.
