Honor Flight puts out call to female veterans

Posted

Female veterans who served in the military during conflict are welcome to submit an application to the RI Fire Chiefs Honor Flight Hub to become eligible to go on their Honor Flight, code named Honor Flight “VICTORY” on Saturday, April 6. January 31 is the final date that Honor Flight will be able to accept applications from female veterans for its all-female Honor Flight.

Top priority is given to WWII veterans that have not yet visited their memorial. Exceptions will be made for terminally ill veterans who have never participated in an Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C. Next priority will be veterans that served between WWII and Korea, then Korean War veterans, then veterans that served between Korea and Vietnam, then Vietnam veterans and continue in the same manner in chronological order of conflicts. All veterans within a conflict will be flown based upon a “first-come, first-served” basis. “First-come” is based upon when a veteran’s application has been received by the Honor Flight Network Headquarters or by the RIFC Honor Flight Hub.

Honor Flight “VICTORY” is being organized by the RI Fire Chiefs Honor Flight Hub, a 501(c)3 non-profit. Honor Flight was created to pay tribute to America’s veterans with a “tour of honor” for those who have made great sacrifices for this country.

Honor Flight “VICTORY” is being sponsored by the Rhode Island Chapters of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs that have made a generous donation that covered the veteran’s expenses for this Honor Flight.

This will be the 22nd Honor Flight organized by the Rhode Island Fire Chiefs Honor Flight Hub since the inaugural flight in November 2012.

Veteran applications can be found on the Rhode Island Fire Chiefs Honor Flight Hub website at www.rihonorflight.com.
