(Cat documentary)
Cat lovers will love this charming documentary about hundreds of thousands of Turkish cats that roam freely through the streets of Istanbul, claiming no owners, neither wild nor tame, but connecting with the Turkish people.
"Kedi" is more than a movie about cats. It is a movie about the colorful, caring people of Istanbul and how these alien, independent creatures play a role in their lives.
The documentary requires sub-titles, but they never get in the way of the colorful cats and humans and their environment.
The camera catches the different personalities of the cats and their human counterparts, with many shots taken from the cats' perspective as they roam the streets, markets and rooftops of the city's neighborhoods. The joy they bring to the residents is expressed openly by these wonderful people who express themselves so plainly yet eloquently, telling us what the cats mean to them personally.
While we have never been fanatic cat lovers like our daughter-in-law and granddaughters, this movie made me want to adopt a cat...preferably one from Istanbul. They have character, and they will surely win your heart.
Kedi has a limited run at the Avon and is currently being previewed in cities around the country. Keep checking it on Google for showings or a chance to purchase. It is one of those rare movies you could watch over and over.
