Market, radio station team up for ‘Season of Giving Food Drive’

As the timeless saying “It’s better to give than to receive” rings particularly true at this time of year, Shore’s Fresh Food Market is in the midst of making it convenient for customers to do just that and help feed local families in need.

In partnership with Lite Rock 105, the nearly 100-year-old family business is hosting its second annual “Season of Giving Food Drive” at its Cranston location, with the food collected benefiting the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. The effort is underway, and culminates with a special Lite Rock 105 live broadcast event from the store on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Upon entering Shore’s, members of the community will find prominently placed food collection bins and signage highlighting the drive and the most-needed items of the pantries that make up the Food Bank’s emergency food network. During the effort through Dec. 7, Shore’s will also create displays offering special sales on most-needed items as a way to encourage additional donations. Among the items the market hopes to collect are peanut butter, canned soups and stews, pasta and tomato sauce, beans, canned fruits and vegetables, and nutritious breakfast cereals.

On Saturday, Dec. 7, the Cranston Shore’s on Atwood Avenue will come alive as Lite Rock 105 broadcasts from inside the market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature a visit from Santa Claus himself, the station’s popular on-air personalities Heather and Steve, Amy Pontes and Vic Edwards posing for fan photos, exciting giveaways and prizes, and some unexpected surprises. Throughout the event, the Food Bank will have a truck on-site to collect additional donations.

At the conclusion of the live broadcast, Shore’s will generously match the tally of food donations received by the Food Bank during the event. The market’s goal is to exceed the more than half-ton collected in 2018.
