It wasn’t exactly Yawkey Way, but for some Boston Red Sox baseball fans, it didn’t matter; Monday’s Opening Day at McShawn’s Pub in Cranston was as special as being inside famed Fenway Park for the 2017 curtain raiser.

There were all kinds of super snacks – kettle corn, potato chips and pretzels – as well as freshly grilled sausage and pepper sandwiches served inside the famed watering hole at 1336 Cranston Street where many people watched the beloved Boston bunch beat back the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-3.

The mini-food fest was served free, courtesy of McShawn’s owner John Lomas, whose history at the popular pub is perhaps as storied as fabled Fenway Park.

For starters, Lomas was the right hand man and long-time bar keeper for the late Sean Holley, who came from Ireland and opened the Lennox Pub in Providence before moving purchasing the former Dempsey’s Tavern and transforming it into McShawn’s Pub that has become famous for its corned beef sandwiches and cold beers.

Moreover, Lomas was with the late Holley for more than four decades and is now the popular proprietor and noted super sports fan.

Monday, Lomas’ lineup card included mixologists Tori and Josh and cook Ray Ciceli, who everyone concurred turned in as prolific a performance at the propane-powered gas grill as Andrew Benintendi did when he clubbed a three-run, fifth-inning home run that powered the Sox to Monday’s two-run triumph.

Opening Day at McShawn’s was also made special by proud patrons like Kevin Shiel – and other guys who took the day off from work – who came decked out in their Opening Day garb that dated back to 2009 when the late Holley hosted a similar baseball bash like Lomas did Monday.

And, as was the case at famed Fenway Monday, no-one left their seats inside McShawn’s until the game was over.
