New Hope Art Gallery set for Holiday/Winter Show

The New Hope Art Gallery’s Holiday/Winter Show is scheduled to open on Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 4-7:30 p.m.

“We are excited to be celebrating nine years of this wonderful nonprofit art gallery that brings art to all people and all people to art,” gallery director Ricky Gagnon said.

The New Hope Art Gallery is a nonprofit art gallery located inside the Cranston Enrichment Center at 1070 Cranston St.

“We charge artists a minimal entry fee for several pieces of art and we take no commissions on sales, so that all money from any sales goes directly to the artist,” Gagnon said. “Being located at the Cranston Senior Enrichment Center has been a wonderful experience and helped us expand our mission by encouraging senior artists to participate in our shows along with local, national, special needs and student artists we had been showing … We are a unique gallery that shows all artists side by side to inspire each other.”

Thee open call for art for the Holiday/Winter Show will be held during the last week of October – on Monday, Oct. 28, Tuesday Oct. 29, and Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. For a $10 fee, artists can show up to five pieces of their work.

“We are open to all artists, from beginners to established artists, and enjoy featuring new artists in every show,” Gagnon said. “The Holiday/Winter show is no exception, with several new artists from the local community being featured along with many returning artists.”

Pam Lacerda is one of the new artists. The show will be her first, and she will be exhibiting her photographs from Alaska.

Carol Scavotto, meanwhile, has been showing her work at the gallery “almost from the start.”

“There are so many things I love about working with Ricky and his team,” she said. “First is the inclusive concept. Everyone from professional to the very beginner is welcomed. Second is the professionalism with which the gallery is run and curated. Ricky has expertly created the most unique concept gallery.”

Another returning artist is William Bowers, who has been showing his work at the gallery for a few years.

“I enjoy showing my work at the New Hope Art Gallery because the staff encourage artists of all skill levels to participate,” he said. “They create a fantastic show with around 100 artists and 400 works of art and a great turnout on opening night. I have been showing my work there for over three years now and will continue to do so in the future.”

Gagnon said that the gallery is also pleased to welcome artist Regina Blount as a new assistant curator.

“Being an assistant curator at the New Hope Art Gallery is a dream come true,” Blount said. “Walls become canvasses and pieces are brought together by subject, color, scale or media. As an artist, assisting at New Hope has led me to thinking even further outside the box, as I am always inspired by the artists and their unique perspectives on life and art.”

The work to be exhibited during the Holiday/Winter Show will span a range of mediums, including ceramic, digital, drawing, fabric, glass, mixed media, painting, photography and sculpture.

There will also be 12 vendor tables featuring small, original art items, including prints and cards from the participating artists.

The opening reception on Nov. 19 will feature music by Jim Chapin, Mark Greenwood and Bob Ruzzo, free portrait drawings by Jack Lai and food. The gallery offers free parking at the Cranston Enrichment Center.

The Holiday/Winter Show will run until Friday, March 6, 2020. Regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except holidays.
