Whether you are on Santa’s “nice” list or his “naughty” list this year, everybody deserves something personal and special at the holidays, something chosen just for them. Christmas is a time of celebration and gift-giving. It is a time when we take stock of all we have been given, whether it is our earthly possessions, our families or our health ~ and we rejoice.
For many, however, Christmas is also a reminder that there are many who are “going without” this season. What may be an easy purchase for some might present a financial hardship for others. It is the mission of the family at New Hope Community Baptist Church to make holiday wishes come true for EVERYONE this year!
Pastor Arlene Butler (the minister of this small congregation in Cranston) and her diligent and hard-working assistant Donna Harrington have done everything within their power to include all those for whom life has dealt a seemingly unfair share of trials. They know God loves all His children, and so do they! As part of their compassionate mission at New Hope, Donna and Arlene have expanded their efforts to help families in need this season. They have provided clothing, blankets, heaters and even holiday décor to many families who have needed a little extra support.
Loyal fans of the New Hope Community Baptist Church are regular visitors to its basement-level thrift store. Here, Pastor Arlene and Donna have created a space that is packed full of new and gently-used items that are perfect for every season of the year. The New Hope Community Baptist Church thrift store is true to its name, offering “new hope” to many people ~ both those who are disadvantaged and those who are savvy shoppers who know a great bargain when they see one!
The thrift store is home to a broad collection of clothing and accessories of every kind for men, women and children, including warm clothing and many Christmas items, just in time for winter and the holidays. There are also household items and small furnishings to outfit any home. There is even a spacious, sun-lit room that is devoted just to beautiful costume jewelry.
Everything sold at the store is in good condition; in fact, Donna only accepts items that are clean, current and in usable and wearable condition. New Hope Community Baptist Church’s thrift store relies entirely on the generous donations of friends and neighbors. Please consider donating your clean and gently-used items to the store, especially at this significant time of year.
