On Friday, Nov. 2 at the Valley Country Club, five more Cranston graduates will join the prestigious ranks of the Cranston Hall of Fame.

This year's nominees are as diverse and interesting as Cranston itself. They represent what Cranston is about, and have carried the legacy of being Cranston graduates proudly throughout their personal and work lives for years.

This year's inductees include Rick MacDonald, Cranston East class of 1979. MacDonald has been associated with Cranston League for Cranston’s Future (CLCF) boxing as a coach for over 20 years. He serves the city of East Providence as a Lieutenant in the Fire Department and was recently selected by the Chief to mentor new firefighters.

Ronald Picerne, Cranston High School class of 1946, is being inducted and recognized for his years of business development and strong philanthropic habits. He developed the Picerne Family Foundation, which awards college scholarships to students who may not be first in their class, but are the first in their families to attend college.

Being honored posthumously is former Police Chief Anthony Moretti. Moretti graduated Cranston High School in 1947. He attended the FBI National Academy, where he graduated first in his class. He served as Chief of police for seven years. After he retired he was appointed Chief of Child Protective Investigations for DCYF.

Representing Cranston West, and the class of 1980, is Gina DelSanto, PhD. Gina is currently the Chief of Staff to the President of Purdue University. Gina has a strong focus on languages and is immersed in the educational community of Indiana.

Gregory Ahlijian, class of 1966 from Cranston East, rounds out this year's inductees. Gregory is a published author, poet and trained landscape architect, and he was a self-employed arborist for 30 years in Oregon. For the past 10 years he has served as a volunteer teacher and mentor at the Jasper Mountain Center.

"It was a challenging responsibility the permanent selection was tasked with but I believe they made outstanding selections for the class of 2018,” said Fred Vincent, president of the Cranston Hall of Fame. “I was excited to see the number of nominations submitted. Cranston alum excel all over the country.”
