Diabetes Support Group: Summertime Issues
Learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of dehydration and heat stroke and how to prevent them.
Volunteers needed
The center’s RSVP Division is looking for volunteers to provide the following services for homebound seniors in the community: companionship to homebound seniors; run errands for homebound seniors; transport homebound seniors to medical appointments; respite services for the caregiver.
If you are interested in becoming an RSVP caregiver volunteer, call 780-6159 for an interview. Volunteers must be 55 years of age or older. A BCI is required. There is reimbursement for mileage.
Advanced health care directives
Advanced health care directives are written instructions indicating what type of medical intervention a person chooses during a time when they may become incapacitated. The Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care permits you to appoint an agent or agents on your behalf if you are unable to communicate your wishes. Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care forms are available in our Social Services Division. To schedule an appointment to complete this form, contact Jennifer at 780-6254 or Nick at 780-6255.
Arthritis exercise classes
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:15 p.m.Beginning July 2, ending Aug. 8Instructors: Jennifer Kevorkian and Marylou Pearson
This free, six-week session will focus on a low-impact physical activity that will help you keep joints flexible and muscles strong, sleep better, increase energy and improve your overall outlook. To register, call 780-6000.
Dementia Friendly Community Series
Tuesdays, 1:30 p.m.Join us on our journey as we explore the faces of memory loss. “Memory Loss: The Basics” will be held on July 9, followed by “Medically Caused Dementia” on July 23. “Dementia & Hearing Loss” will be held Aug. 6, and the series concludes with “A Caregiver’s Journey” on Aug. 20. Support for the Dementia Friendly Community Series is provided by a grant from Tufts Health Plan Foundation.
