Police have identified a man killed in a motorcycle accident on Pontiac Avenue late Sunday night.
John Mattesini III, 34, of Cranston was pronounced deceased at the scene after emergency personnel responded at approximately 11:55 p.m., according to Maj. Todd Patalano.
The major said speed has been identified as “one of the contributing factors” in the crash. He declined to elaborate further and said the accident remains under investigation by the department’s Traffic Unit.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family,” he said.
Patalano said Mattesini was operating a 2018 Yamaha motorcycle at the time of the crash. He said the motorcycle crossed the double yellow lines and struck the curbing on the east side of Pontiac Avenue in the area of Branch Avenue, and then also struck “several fixed objects.”
The major said Mattesini was wearing a helmet at the time.
