Cranston Police have arrested Thoeniz Oun, 28, of 352 Pontiac Avenue, on a number of charges:

• Possession of fentanyl with intent to deliver
• Possession of cocaine with intent to deliver
• Possession of heroin with intent to deliver
• Distribution of a controlled substance near a school
• Carrying a dangerous weapon when committing a crime of violence

Oun was allegedly involved in the distribution of fentanyl in close proximity to Cranston East.  Detectives had received information that he was distributing the illegal narcotics from his residence, which is within 300 feet of the high school, and he was detained.

Seized from his residence was approximately 16 grams of fentanyl, 31 grams of ‘crack cocaine,’ 16 grams of heroin mixed with suspected fentanyl, a 45 caliber Glock semi-automatic handgun, ammunition, $29,000 in cash, and assorted packaging materials/instruments consistent with narcotics trafficking.

Oun was ordered to be held without bail pending a hearing schedule for Aug. 23.

After the arrest, three detectives began experiencing the ill effects associated with fentanyl exposure and were transported to Rhode Island Hospital before later being released and returning to duty.

Colonel Michael Winquist stated: “I cannot overstate the importance of taking fentanyl off our streets. This deadly substance was being distributed within view of one of our local high schools.  The potency of this substance cannot be underestimated, which is illustrated by three of our officers becoming ill from indirect contact with fentanyl despite taking precautionary measures. I commend members of our Special Investigations Unit who are on the front lines every day, risking their lives, to remove dangerous drugs from our neighborhoods and arresting individuals who profit from this illicit activity.”
