Forty years after launching the first 'safe house' for abused women and their families in Kent County, the board of directors of the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center announced an upcoming celebration of its founding and a luncheon featuring Drea Kelly, of Lifetime 's "Surviving R. Kelly," on Wednesday, March 20, at 12:00 p.m., at Warwick Country Club.
The luncheon and program will feature award-winning choreographer, dancer and creative director Drea Kelly, widely known from VH1 's "Hollywood Exes," and Lifetime's "Surviving R Kelly." She is a powerful advocate of domestic violence awareness and survival, and will speak about the mental, physical and emotional abuse she experienced at the hands of her ex-husband, and "her passion for women's empowerment and self-responsibility."
Tickets are $50 each, which includes a luncheon and must be purchased in advance. Registration and networking begin at 11:30 a.m. For information or to make a reservation call 401-738-9700.
The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center, a member of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence, was founded in 1979 as the Elizabeth Buffum Chace House, by the G.F.WC Junior Women's Club to provide advocacy to victims affected by interpersonal violence.
They continue that mission today with a crisis hotline, shelter and transitional housing, advocacy in court; counseling and support groups. All services are provided at no charge.

Many women keep the last name when it is the same as their children's last name, especially during school years to make things easier.

And....
Her child still has Kelly as their last name.
She is getting paid to speak about abuse. The woman took a really terrible situation and turned it around to help other people. I mean, how dare she use her legal name to do that, right? What exactly is your issue with that and why degenerate her for it?
