(Based on true WWII spy story)

Judi Dench plays Joan Stanley, a retired widow living in London who is visited by the British Secret Service and accused of espionage. She is interrogated for providing classified scientific information, including details on the building of the atomic bomb, to Russia.

Sophie Cookson plays Joan's younger self as the story unfolds and Joan relives the dramatic events that shaped her life and beliefs. She sincerely believed that if both sides had the bomb, they would never use it against each other (which proved to be the case) but was labeled a traitor for her beliefs and actions.

The film is a bit slow at times, raised up by two love affairs that change her life. Cookson and Dench give moving portrayals of the conflicted woman.

Rated R, with some sex and profanity.
