Ruth Muriel (Johnson) Bengtson passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Billerica Crossings in Billerica, MA. She was married for 56 years to Gilbert R. Bengtson, who passed away in 1999.

She was born on August 28, 1922, in Providence, RI, the daughter of Herman and Gertrude Johnson. Ruth grew up at Hillside Farms in Oaklawn, RI, and lived most of her life in Cranston, RI. She attended Pembroke College (now Brown University).

Ruth was one of the original school crossing guards for the city of Cranston. She also was employed for 39 years at the Reservoir Avenue Burger King. In 2002 she was presented with a Chairman's Award by the CEO and President of Burger King "for superior contributions to the success of Burger King and to the customers and communities we serve everyday."

As a charter member of Faith Chapel in Cranston, she was active for many years in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Women's Ministries, and International Missions.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Melvin and Clifford; and a sister, Velna. She leaves four children: David (Marilyn), Long Prairie, MN; Dale (Karen), North Billerica, MA; Dean (Linda), Ishinomaki, Japan; and Dana (Anne), Coral Springs, FL; eight grandchildren, Cory, Kjersten, Shauna, Ryan, Joshua, Christopher, Dylan, and Drew, and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at 11 AM at Faith Chapel, 43 Scituate Avenue, Cranston, RI, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Warwick, RI. Memorial donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to Lutheran Brethren International Mission, 1020 W Alcott Ave, Fergus Falls, MN 56537.
