This year, Operation Stand Down RI’s Boots on the Ground for Heroes display moved from Roger Williams Park to Fort Adams State Park in Newport. The display, which featured 6,957 boots with nametags, honored those who have given their lives in service to the nation since Sept. 11, 2001. Two of Cranston’s own were honored as part of a separate display of Rhode Islanders whose lives were lost – Coast Guard PS3 Ronald A. Gill Jr., and Marine Lance Cpl. Holly Charette.
