Observing the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt, the newly formed Jewish Congregation Or Chadash, meaning New Light, that had its roots in the former Temple Am David in Warwick and found a home in Trinity Church in Pawtuxet, held the traditional Passover Seder in the church meeting hall Saturday evening. The meal started with the Kiddush or blessing to “God, Monarch of the Universe” who has “distinguished Your people Israel and sanctified them with Your holiness.” It was followed by the drinking of wine and a meal that included gefilte fish, chopped liver, chicken soup, matzo ball soup, kegel and a variety of sweets. The congregation celebrated its relocation last June 10 when a gathering that included Jews and Christians carried three Torahs from Warwick over the Pawtuxet Village Bridge to the sanctuary the church provided in a ground floor room. Since then the congregation has grown, reports Judith Bessoff. “It was very small, but growth is slow as expected,” she said. The congregation numbers 32, but there was certainly more for Saturday’s Seder.
