Miko Lehnert, an eighth-grader at Park View Middle School, is a skilled artist. Her talent earned her a second-place award in the Lindsay Ann Burke Memorial Fund’s 2019 Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Poster Contest for middle schools.

Miko entered the contest at the recommendation of her health teacher, John Macera, with whom she is pictured above. This year’s theme was “Healthy Relationships.” She was awarded the second-place prize of $250 by Park View Middle School teacher Christopher Burke, treasurer of the Lindsay Ann Burke Memorial Fund.

Ann Burke, president of the memorial fund, said of the entrants: “The quality was excellent and, therefore, the competition was strong.”

The Lindsay Ann Burke Memorial Fund is a nonprofit corporation founded to honor the life of Lindsay Ann Burke, a former Saunderstown resident who was a compassionate, honest, trusting young woman who cared deeply for others. She was trying to break the cycle of domestic violence when she was murdered in 2005.

The Lindsay Ann Burke Memorial Fund supports the prevention of relationship violence, primarily through the education of teens, parents, educators and the public.
