On Saturday, March 16, the student executive board from the Western Hills Middle School Social Media Club, along with their faculty advisor, Robin Blackburn, were presenters at the Rhode Island Department of Education’s PrepareRI Spring Summit. They were featured as a part of Jen Cowart’s Communications in Education presentation, “How to Tell Your Story,” where they spoke to educators, administrators and community partners about the role that their club and each of them individually play in sharing the good news at Western Hills online, utilizing various platforms. Blackburn described the club’s seven-year existence and the responsibilities that the students have in running and maintaining the school's Facebook and Instagram pages. The innovative club was also detailed in a case study by Cowart that was also presented on Saturday, entitled “Communications in Education: Putting Students in the Driver's Seat.” The five students on the executive board are Amelia Andreozzi, Jared Parent, Jovina Yu, Dean Gaulin and Patrick McDonough.
