Santa arrives and brings merriment to chilly Garden City

Santa Claus officially arrived at the Garden City Center this past Saturday. His arrival party including meetings with Santa, Mrs. Claus and the Elves. There was face painting, hot chocolate and cookies. Proceeds from cookie and hot chocolate sales benefited the Food Bank at CCAP. Rides on the Holly Trolley was available Saturday, but the Trolley will not be running on weekends this season.

The weather was perfect for Santa’s Arrival party, and he entered the shopping center in a horse drawn carriage provided by New Deal Horse & Carriage. The carriage was available for rides around the center throughout the day.

Hundreds of children of all ages attended the yearly event to officially kick of the holiday season in Garden City. Children were able to visit Santa in his cabin and professional photography was offered.

The Gazebo area was very festive with dancing, music and laughter. Although the lines were long to visit Santa, people took it in stride and struck up conversations with others in line.

Santa Claus is available daily for visits and photographs. For more information on available hours, contact the Garden City management office at 401-942-2800.

Santa will be at Newport Creamery in Garden City Center for breakfast on Dec. 3 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and on Dec. 10 at the Corner Bakery from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Parents are invited to bring their cameras.

“Garden City Center is so special for holiday shopping because we offer a wonderful outdoor shopping experience unduplicated anywhere in New England,” said Janice Pascone, marketing director for Garden City Center. “Garden City Center has a unique mix of national, regional and local shops; and with easy access and parking, holiday shopping here is a breeze.”

According to Pascone, Holiday Strolls will be held Dec. 8 and 9 between 6 and 8 p.m. On each night of the stroll. Join in for live entertainment, holiday shopping, steel drummers and ice carvings.

“The holiday strolls are designed to be a festive night and a shopper’s delight,” said Pascone. “There is no better place to be than Garden City Center this holiday season.”

Strolling carolers including Brown Derbies, VOX and Merry Dickens as well as a strolling snowman. On Dec. 8 from 6 to 7 p.m. will be performances by the Hope Highlands chorus and jazz band.

Garden City Center gift cards are available for purchase at a self-service kiosk inside the Midway Place office building on Midway road.
