Sena commits TO DII Stonehill

By ALEX SPONSELLER Cranston West cornerback Nate Sena recently made his college decision official, committing to play for the Division II Stonehill Skyhawks next fall in Easton, Mass.

“It feels great now that I’m less stressed about it. It’s amazing, I’m really excited to play,” said Sena, who felt right at home when visiting the Stonehill campus and meeting members of the football program. “I felt really comfortable there, they have great academics there where I can succeed. Their football team is amazing and made me feel like I was part of the family, they treated me like their own, showed me the ins and outs of everything.”

Sena played at both cornerback and wide receiver during his time at West. Stonehill is planning on using him primarily as a cornerback and will give him an opportunity to carve out some playing time on special teams as well.

“I’m very confident at corner. I think that I can get some playing time, but I still have plenty of room to learn and to get some experience. I feel like I can make it on special teams and hopefully I’ll be able to start soon,” said Sena.

Sena is also excited to test his metal against some of the region’s top talent, taking the jump from high school to a Division II club.

“I expect the competition to be much better, pretty much every guy was the guy to beat in their home town or home city. I am going to go up against great competition, but that will make me better and will make everyone else better,” said Sena.

Sena joins three other Rhode Islanders who have committed to Stonehill, including West teammate Cam Alves and Bishop Hendricken standouts Tom and Nic Comella.

“It’s great, me and Cam have played pretty much our whole lives together. The Comellas, we have been going against each other forever so playing with each other is going to be amazing. Competing with those guys is going to raise the intensity level,” said Sena.

As he prepares to take the next step in his football career, Sena will miss the Cranston West community and hopes to use the lessons he learned during high school to reach his full potential at Stonehill.

“What I am going to miss the most are my coaches, teammates, and the memories that I made on that field,” said Sena. “I’m going to carry that same work ethic that they taught me, I’ll carry that responsibility and work hard to be great there.”
