Stadium students make a hard sell for recycling

The students in Michele Theroux's fifth grade class recently finished a writing unit comprised of several different components, just in time for Earth Day.

"Each quarter we focus on a different type of writing, and this quarter was persuasive writing," said Theroux.

The students were required to use recyclable materials to create an object that they could then write a persuasive piece about, selling the functions and benefits of the product they'd created, to the reader. Once complete, the students had to do an oral presentation about the product they'd created. The students focused on how their product worked and why one would want to purchase it, as well as any benefits they might receive by purchasing it immediately, such as a free companion item or a "buy one get one" deal.
