On April 11, students from Cranston High School East took to the stage to impress their friends, families and classmates during the annual “East’s Got Talent” event.
The hosts for the evening were Hannah Murphy and Danisha Coste. Approximately 100 people turned out to cheer on the performers in the school’s auditorium.
All of the acts in the show were musical, and several of the performers played their own instruments to accompany themselves.
The East Jazz Band – comprised of Tessa Bellotti, Jeremiah Coss, Sophia DiNaro, Domenic Fusco, William Hardy, Valoric Julian, Samuel Kristiansen, Andrew Maldonado, Griffin Martin, Jacob McLane, Troy Santopadre and Peter Vannini, and directed by Greg Arsenault – started off the show with “Catchin’ The Trane.”
The band also performed Duke Ellington’s “Take the ‘A’ Train” during the first act, accompanied by Tessa Bellotti, and a pair of the selections during the second act – “Garaje Gato” by Gordon Goodwin and Herbie Hancock’s “Chameleon.”
Performers in the first act included Ariana Sosa, who sang Beyonce’s “If I Were a Boy”; Alexandria Cabral, who sang and played “Dust to Dust” by The Civil Wars on guitar; Sabiha Can, who sang the Turkish pop song “Si Bastan”; Samantha Schleifer, who sang Katy Perry’s “Human”; Aislinn Baxter, who sang and performed “Stars/Moonriver” on piano; and Ilyza Albeno, who sang “Jealous” by Labrinth.
Performers in the second act included Rose Brooks, who sang “Smoke and Fire” by Sabrina Carpenter; Bradley Champagne, who sang and performed “Creep” by Radiohead on guitar; Justin Chhin and Nicole Agyemang, who sang a duet of “Best Part” by H.E.R.; Tristan (Scout) Rassmussen, who sang and performed “Fix You” by Coldplay on guitar; and Bellotti, who sang “Rise Up” by Andra Day.
The show closed with Dylan April singing “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay.
