On June 16, children of all ages joined in for the Summer Reading Kick-Off at the William Hall Library in the afternoon. This program is geared toward grades K-5 and families.
Children were able to sign up for the summer reading challenge and get their backstage pass if they arrived earlier. The first 100 students who signed up for the challenge also got a free, limited edition lanyard and plastic case for their pass for the 1 p.m. performance of Musical Art Circus.
The event also included Musical Art Circus Dynamics, Rock ‘N Roll Murals, Make Your Own Mohawk, Rockstar Photobooth and a Kona Shaved Ice Truck (who offered free cups for the first 100 to sign up).
Students are encouraged to real every day during the summer and their backstage Pass also contained a reading check off list with 7 sections. These sections can be completed after the student reads for 20 minutes or more. Sections must be completed between June 25 and Aug. 10.
After the 7 sections are filled, they can then bring their pass to the Cranston library of their choice and receive an instant prize as well as being entered the Grand Prize Raffle, which includes free music lessons, a gift certificate to Guitar Center or headphones.
Registration for the Summer Reading are still being accepted and for more information, visit cranstonlibrary.org/youth-programs or visit any branch of the Cranston Library.
