Theodore C. Simon Jr., PhD, 62, died Saturday, September 21, 2019 after a prolonged and brave battle with lung cancer. He was the beloved husband of Emily Riley.

He was the son of the late Theodore C. and Christine R. (Atanasu) Simon. Ted was a scientist for Pfizer Pharmaceutical for 10 years, retiring in 2016 as Head, Global Science & Technology Group and GMAP Comparative Medicine. He received his PhD in biochemistry at George Washington University and served on the faculty at Washington University in St. Louis from 1990-2006. He was a member of the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society.

At the age of 15, Ted hiked the Appalachian Trail solo from Georgia to Maine. He continued his love of hiking through the years, hiking the Needles Mountains in Colorado, the lava fields of Hawaii, the French Pyrenees, the Swiss Alps and the beautiful countryside trails of England. A lifelong yogi, practicing every day, he was certified to teach sivananda and svaroopa yoga. He loved running, and he completed many marathons and ultra-marathons. For the past six years, he and his wife became avid ballroom dancers. He was also a long-time volunteer for the American Cancer Society.

Besides his wife he leaves his sisters, Carol Simon Leach and her husband, Dennis, and Virginia Simon Bynum and her husband, Dick.

A visitation will be held Saturday, September 28 from 2-3 p.m. with A Celebration of Life at 3 p.m. in Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick.
