The Cranston community came together in a big way last Tuesday night to collect thousands of toys for families in need.

More than 250 people came out to the Thirsty Beaver on Atwood Avenue in support of the effort, carrying bags filled with toys that will benefit children in need through Toys for Tots, Veterans Inc. and Praise Tabernacle in Cranston. The goal was to beat the previous record of collecting 5,000 toys, and that was accomplished with more than 7,000 toys collected.

“We are truly thankful to all our friends, family and customers who donated to our annual Toy Drive. We successfully collected over 7,500 toys for families in need,” said Ed Brady, a member of the Cranston City Council and co-owner of the Thirsty

“This toy drive has helped over 100 veterans and their families have a great Christmas,” said Adam DeCiccio, regional manager of Veterans Inc., which is taking part in the initiative for the second year. “It’s always a great feeling to see our great city of Cranston come together and help those who are in need.”
