The Western Hills Middle School (WHMS) community surpassed this year's $10,000 goal for their biggest annual fundraiser, the fall walkathon. On Oct. 19, the entire school community gathered together on the Cranston High School West track to walk during the morning hours. The event was hosted by the WHMS parent teacher organization and brought in more than $10,370. The monies are used for school events and programming throughout the school year.
Principal Tim Vesey praised the WHMS community at the end of the day, thanking all for their efforts and dedication, and recognizing the top fundraisers from the student body.
"Once again, our Western Hills community came through by raising a total of $10,370.09," he said. "Thank you to all who donated. Our PTO will use those funds, as they always do, to support teaching and learning at Western Hills."
The top three student fundraisers received gift certificates to the Warwick Mall from the PTO.
Those students were: Tyler Lariviere, who brought in $480 and received a $150 gift certificate, Amaya Gallant who brought in $225 and received a $75 gift certificate, and Juliana Duarte, who brought in $190 and received a $50 gift certificate.
