West's alumni auditorium gets new signage

Posted

Last fall, the Cranston High School West Alumni Auditorium officially reopened after an extensive renovation.

New paint, carpeting, lighting and seating had been put in after a collaborative effort from the school department, the school’s alumni association and many community partners. Gracing many of the seats in the auditorium were plaques signifying donations from members of the community, alumni, family memorials, and other special notations.

After the official ribbon cutting, new signage was placed on the doors of the building. However, the signage on the front door could not be seen from the street, so there was still one more piece of work to be done.

The auditorium space has since been used by the school throughout the year for open houses, drama performances, school-wide assemblies and by local community groups for their events.

In the spring, Cranston West’s drama program hosted the Rhode Island Drama Festival, with more than a dozen schools utilizing the space for the two-day competition, performances taking place every hour on the hour for two days straight. During the coming school year the school will host the visiting team for their October NEASC accreditation visit, guests hailing from all over New England, and the school will also host the New England Drama Festival, welcoming schools from all over the New England region for three days in the spring of 2019.

Therefore, it was perfect timing this summer, when the new name of the auditorium was officially installed on the building, to put the new signage on the side of the building so that all who enter the campus will now have no problem knowing where the Cranston High School West Alumni Auditorium is located. The signage was placed over new landscaping that was put in over the past year as well.

“This continued auditorium work is proof of what a community can accomplish when everyone works together,” said Cranston West Alumni Association president David DiMaio.

He noted that there are still some remaining seat sponsorships available which will continue to help fund additional work in the space.
