The Cranston Herald’s Athlete of the Week is Cranston West sophomore gymnast Gianna Desmarais. After a breakout freshman season, Desmarais did even better as a sophomore and took home the All-Around title at Sunday’s RIIL State Championships. Desmarais defended her Vault title while also winning on Bars and taking third on Beam. She became the second Cranston West athlete to ever take home the All-Around championship. She was also key in the Falcons finishing second in Division II on Saturday and will next be in action at the upcoming New England Championships. Beacon Media photo by Alex Sponseller
