Debra A. (McLaughlin) Baker, RN., 71, of Warwick, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2024. She was the wife of the late Retired WFD Captain, Richard Baker (USN & USCG Veteran), to whom she shared 40 years of marriage.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late William and Kathleen (McDonough) McLaughlin. Debra started her training at Rhode Island’s St. Joseph’s Nursing school where she went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She later went on to attend CCRI’s Nursing Program where she graduated with an Associate in Science in 1989, as both the keynote speaker and class valedictorian, becoming a Registered Nurse. Helping those in need throughout many Hospitals and Nursing Homes in Rhode Island, she completed her career as an RN with Kent Hospital prior to her retirement.
Debra dedicated much of her life to helping those in need, and was always very passionate about her career. Her favorite time spent however, was when she was surrounded by the love of her close friends and family, especially her grandchildren. She loved being a “Grammie”. She enjoyed reading, fencing and even learned how to fly a plane.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Christopher Baker (USN Veteran) and his wife Mrs. Xiao Baker; daughter, Mrs. Ashley Plummer and her husband Technical Sergeant Ryan Plummer; siblings, Mr. Steven McLaughlin, and Ms. Donna McLaughlin, beloved grandchildren, Mr. Oliver Plummer and Ms. Cara Baker.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation for her on Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 4:00-7:00pm, followed by a Chapel Service at 7:00pm, in the Thomas and Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave, Warwick.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to St. Jude’s. A private burial will take place in Pawtuxet Memorial Park.
