Burlesque n’ Roll comes back to rock Dusk

Posted

Once a successful event happens, the next priority is to build off of it and make it an annual thing. There’s room for new ideas to include, new folks to get involved and a new vibe to create. Last October, the first edition of Burlesque n’ Roll took place at Dusk on 301 Harris Avenue in Providence while combining live rock & roll music with burlesque dancing and it was a wild & fun time. Then it returned to the same venue during the following April to celebrate the European holiday known as St. Walpurgis Night and on October 22nd at 7pm it’ll be happening at the same establishment once again. Along with loud, raucous bands taking the stage as well as having a burlesque show, this upcoming edition will also feature a Halloween costume contest. Whoever is wearing the funniest and scariest attire will be awarded a cash prize at some point in the evening.

Just like the last two editions of Burlesque n’ Roll, Brandy Donahue and Dan St. Jacques co-organized the event. St. Jacques’ punk band The Hammer Party will be taking part in the live music side of things, just like they did the last two times, while Donahue has been behind the curation of the unique theme that’ll be encompassing the upcoming spectacle.

“We're wicked excited to premiere the long awaited return of Providence's most extreme black metal band, Sire, who will be headlining this event,” St. Jacques says about the music lineup. “People should expect the unexpected when they show up to Dusk for the craziest Halloween party of the year. You'll be surprised and possibly terrified by provocative and exciting performances by a selection of the area's finest artists.”

“Set heavily in 60’s retro sci-fi fantasy, this year’s Burlesque n’ Roll is bringing in new talent from Florida, Miss Ruby Tesla, to the Providence burlesque scene to slay,” Donahue adds. “We are distorting our favorite venue, Dusk, into a glowing moonscape to captivate with a mix of classic and neo-burlesque right in the middle of our rock & roll show. These are the most creative performers I’ve ever had the privilege to work with. Bettysioux Tailor, Maiden X, Shirley MacSlaine, Hades Ivory, Cabaret Sauvignon and Kittens Divine are showing up to make you question everything you think you know.”

Joining up with The Hammer Party and Sire will be New Haven, Connecticut psychedelic new wavers Haunting Titans, electropunk duo Artist Jackie & The Wizard, rock & roll power trio Sugar Cones and Taunton, Massachusetts punks Loud Neighbors. Jackie & The Wizard will be performing the song “It’s Good’ for the first time live, which Jackie released as a single back on October 7.

“I've been a huge fan of Dan St. Jacques since I met him in 2018 when he saw us at the News Cafe [in Pawtucket] and asked Jamie and I to open for The Hammer Party at Dusk,” Jackie mentions about getting involved in Burlesque n’ Roll. “Since then we have become good friends, he's definitely one of my favorite people in the music scene so it was an honor to be asked to play this banger party. Everywhere I look there's gonna be ‘sexy people’!”

This year’s edition of Burlesque n’ Roll has a lot to offer while promising to be a fun event to check out this Saturday night. Make sure to show up dressed up for a shot at some money and enjoy yourself while enjoying some highly amplified music and some exquisitely creative dancing at one of the best venues in “The Creative Capital."
