Herald unveils All-City teams

This week, the Cranston Herald sports department is honoring some of Cranston’s best athletes of the winter season with its All-City teams. As always, it was a fun-filled few months of big-time performances as we saw plenty of athletes shine on the biggest stages. Athletes are selected based on factors including statistical performance, postseason success as well as leadership impact on and off the court, ice, etc. Congratulations to all of our athletes! - Alex Sponseller, Sports Editor 

Boys Basketball

Darien Peterson, East

Noah Germain, West

Player of the Year: Noah Germain, West

Noah Germain is the Herald’s boys basketball player of the year after leading the Falcons to the Division II playoffs. Germain’s presence in the paint was a dominant one on both ends of the floor, earning him All-Division II honors.

Player of the Year: Kyla Buco, West

Kyla Buco continued to be one of the state’s most potent scorers this winter and led the Falcons in scoring with 15 points per game. She also led the team in assists, free throw percentage and steals.

Player of the Year: Devin DeAngelis, Cranston

Devin DeAngelis enjoyed a breakout season as the Cranston co-op’s top scorer and became the team’s unquestioned leader on the offensive end of the ice. DeAngelis led the team in both goals (12) and assists (20) and helped the co-op return to the postseason.

Player of the Year: Lindsey Rowe, Cranston

Lindsey Rowe took control for the Thunderbirds as the rebuilding roster was searching for answers early this winter season. Rowe finished as the team’s leading scorer and became a top-flight forward in the state.

Gymnast of the Year: Gianna Desmarais, West

Gianna Desmarais grabbed headlines at the state championships as she went on to win the all-around title as a sophomore, beating reigning champion Lauren Horrigan. Desmarais also defended her vault title while also taking third on the beam. She became the second person to win an all-around title in Cranston West program history.

Swimmer of the Year: Alexander Tremblay, West

Alexander Tremblay became the boys swimming co-op’s top swimmer this past season and made noise at the state championships, taking home top-10 finishes in the 200 individual medley, 500 yard freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay.

Swimmer of the Year: Maddison Dutra, Cranston

Maddison Dutra excelled for the girls swimming co-op across multiple events and saved her best for last at the state championships. Dutra was a member of the relay team that took eighth in the 200 medley, while also taking sixth in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the backstroke.

Ryan Stoloff was a steady presence across multiple events for the Falcons this past season and finished strong as he took home a third-place finish in the 300 dash at the state championships.

Reece Vitale continued to cement herself as one of the state’s best hurdlers, taking fifth in the 55 and being West’s lone athlete to reach the podium.

Benjamin Jawharjian finished the winter season strong for the Falcons as he took home fifth place at 132 pounds at the state championships, earning two wins via pin.
