With Ken Hopkins the declared winner of the Republican Mayoral Primary, Councilman Robert Ferri, the endorsed Democratic nominee for Mayor of Cranston welcomes Ken to the general election, and had the following statement.
“With the contentious, and at times embarrassing for the city’s reputation, Republican primary election behind us, I welcome Ken Hopkins to the general election, and invite him to run a clean campaign focused on the issues facing the voters of Cranston.
When I first ran for office in 2020, it was because I lived by the belief that good people can get involved and solve problems for people in government. I am running for Mayor because we need a leader who will make our city work for its residents.
Simply put, if I thought things were working well in our city, I wouldn’t be running.
I will wake up everyday to make life better for parents, seniors, homeowners and renters. Ken seems more focused on taking care of himself and his friends who he owes favors to.
There is no Republican or Democrat way to fund the schools, fix the roads, or get our city’s finances in order. I’m going to be Mayor for all of Cranston, not just Democrats or Republicans.
As he tries to pick up the tattered pieces of a divided party, Democrat, Republican, and Independent voters across the city of Cranston are joining our coalition for a city that listens to and works for the people.
I have a clear track record of bringing people of different viewpoints together to make policy that improves lives. I promise to always listen and be honest to the people of Cranston about the state of our city.
My message to the Republican primary voters of Cranston is that if things didn’t turn out today as you wished they had, I’d be honored to earn your support on November 5th.
Editor’s Note: Robert Ferri is the Democratic candidate for mayor and will face incumbent Mayor Kenneth J. Hopkins, a Republican, in the General Election on Nov. 5. All candidates for office are welcome to submit letters to the editor on important topics faced by voters. We ask only that candidates avoid personal attacks in their letters. We will edit only for clarity and length, when needed. Send all letters and guest opinions to Cranston Herald Editor Rory Schuler, at rorys@rhodybeat.com.
