The Cranston Public Library, Cranston Senior Enrichment Center and the OneCranston Health Equity Zone will host Cranston’s first ever Community Health Celebration Night on March 29 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Cranston Senior Enrichment Center. This free event is open to everyone in the community.
As part of the Healthy Families at the Cranston Public Library initiative, the celebration will feature local Cranston agencies focused on healthy living for the whole family.
Agencies in attendance will include the Cranston Fire Department, Comprehensive Community Action Program (CCAP), Cranston Family Center, Rhode Island Parent Information Network (RiPIN), Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center, Cranston Substance Abuse Task Force, Alzheimer’s Association of RI and HealthSource RI among others.
Light refreshments will be served and there will be raffle prizes, kid’s crafts, giveaways, music and more.
“We wanted to have a one-of-a-kind gathering that showcased all the local Cranston agencies who are there to help our residents lead healthy lives,” said Julie Holden, Assistant Library Director. “Our partnership with the Cranston Senior Enrichment Center and the OneCranston Health Equity Zone (HEZ) has been a terrific way to make sure we are getting the best health information out to the community.”
In 2021, the Cranston Public Library received a $29,500 grant from the Network of the National Libraries of Medicine to begin a health outreach program that connects people with factual and timely health information. The goal of the Health Families Initiative is to reach multiple populations in Cranston and surrounding communities, with a specific focus on speakers of languages other than English.
The Cranston Senior Enrichment Center is located at 1070 Cranston Street. To learn more about the Healthy Families Initiative, visit https://cranstonlibrary.org/healthy-families.
