East, West grinding in softball playoffs

Posted

The Cranston West and Cranston East softball teams are in the thick of their playoff races, with each club earning wins while also being bounced to the losers bracket of their respective divisions.

The defending champion Bolts picked up a 6-1 win over Davies last week to advance to the DIII winners bracket finals. Aniah Parker drove in a pair of runs while Bryanna Morales also knocked in a run in the win.

Lexi Montalban got the win, pitching a complete game and allowing no earned runs and striking out 12 batters.

The team lost to Tiverton 14-2 in the winners bracket finals on Monday.

Despite jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning, it would be all Tiverton from there as it rolled to 14 runs and finished the game in the fourth inning.

Montalban drove in Gianna Tocci for the team’s first run, then reached home on a throwing error.

The team faced Rogers on Tuesday with a chance to reach the championship against Tiverton.

Cranston West took a 12-0 loss to La Salle to be bounced to the losers bracket in DI. The Falcons recovered, though, edging Smithfield 4-3 to stay in the hunt.

Sienna Nardelli, Mia Crudale and Emma Regine all drove in runs against Smithfield, while Crudale pitched a complete game and allowed two earned runs while striking out two batters.

The Falcons faced Pilgrim on Tuesday, with the winner taking on Chariho in the losers bracket finals. The winner of that game will earn a title shot against the Rams, who have already clinched a spot in the championship.
