OneCranston Health Equity Zone is starting a new initiative with the Cranston Herald and local photographer Timothy McFate called Humans of Cranston; they will be interviewing Cranston residents to gain a deeper understanding of and celebrate those who live here. St. Paul’s School of Edgewood is holding a Religious Book Sale after all Masses on Nov. 19 and Nov. 20, The sale, in Msgr. Canning Hall (behind the school on Warwick Avenue), will run from 5:30 -6:30 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. Masses are held in St. Paul Church at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 on Sunday.
There will be inspiring and uplifting books for adults and children in the areas of Theology, Philosophy, Lives of Saints, Bible Stories, Family Fun & Education and Prayer Books. It will be a good opportunity to stock up on Christmas gifts and books to curl up with this winter. A Social Sunday coffee hour will be held after 9:30 Mass.
This sale is one of several activities commemorating 100 years of St. Paul’s School, located at 1789 Broad Street in Cranston. The Roman Catholic elementary school, grades PreK-8th, opened in Fall 1922 and graduated its first class the following spring. Upcoming events include an Anniversary Dinner on April 22, 2023, at Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet, with registration details to be announced soon.
St. Mary’s Holy Name Society will host a Turkey Trot at 6 p.m. on Nov. 19 at St. Mary’s School Gym (85 Chester Ave., Cranston). There will be food, drinks, raffles and Turkey bingo. There will also be a Santa’s Helper raffle for a $500 shopping spree.
The Edgewood Congregational Church, 1788 Broad St., Cranston, will hold its annual holiday sale on Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition to gift items, collectibles, raffles and snacks, the six rooms housing the Lydia’s Closet Thrift Show will be open for bargain clothing, housewares, and other items suitable for gifts and personal purchases. Many rare items have been donated from estates and are for sale at bargain prices as local families struggle during these difficult financial times.

Learn new baking skills at Cranston’s Central Library on Nov. 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the James T. Giles room. This family program is intended for children grades Pre-K through 5 to attend with a caregiver. Each group will be given the ingredients to make their own crust and filling for apple hand pies. Registration is required and space is limited.

On Dec. 9, the Cranston High School East Orchestra will perform at the Roger Williams Park Zoo Holiday Lights Spectacular. The zoo has over 1 million lights. Last year over 100,000 people visited the display in the month of December. The Orchestra will be performing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Warwick Center for the Arts is holding its 36th annual RI Open Juried Exhibit from Oct. 1 to Nov. 12 at 3259 Post Road, Warwick. The show consists of a variety of media and subject matter and is juried by Paula Martiesian. Martiesian has exhibited extensively around RI and is an award-winning advocate for the arts and artists. Notable Works Publication is working with Crosswinds Poetry on the third edition of “Voices of the Earth: The Future of Our Planet.” The theme is awakening a resolve for rediscovery, resolution, adaption, growth and a call for continued action. Poets accepted for the publication in this book will receive a complimentary copy upon completion. Three prizes will be awarded from entries. ($100 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place.)
