Free Vaccine Clinics

The OneCranston HEZ will be hosting two Free Vaccine clinics. One at Central Library on Nov. 2 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. (this will be Flu Shot only) and another on Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 1090 Cranston St. (This will have Covid vaccines, boosters and Flu shots.)


Storytelling and Food

Join the OneCranston HEZ on Nov. 12 at the Central Library from 11 a.m. to noon for a Storytelling and food event. Come join us in hearing stories of food and the importance they have in different cultures from Rochel Garner Coleman of RI Black Storytellers.


Behavioral Health Fair

On Nov. 14, the OneCranston HEZ and the Cranston Public Libraries are hosting a Behavioral Health Fair from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Central Library. Come learn about the different organizations working in Cranston.


Turkey Trot

St. Mary’s Holy Name Society will host a Turkey Trot at 6 p.m. on Nov. 19 at St. Mary’s School Gym (85 Chester Ave., Cranston). There will be food, drinks, raffles and Turkey bingo. There will also be a Santa’s Helper raffle for a $500 shopping spree.


Cranston Police Explorer Program

Please join Cranston Police for an informational meeting and learn what the Explorer Program is about.  There will be an open house on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. at the Cranston Police Training Complex (493 Phenix Ave.). RSVP by email to rsantagata@cranstonpoliceri.com. The explorer program’s purpose is to educate and involve youth of Cranston in police operations and to cultivate an interest in possible law enforcement careers. Eligibility requirements include the following: members are individuals between ages 14 and 20; members must maintain no less than a C average in school; any action of discipline in school suspensions, out-of-school suspensions or expulsion will result in action from the post, failure to report any school disciplinary actions will result in further disciplinary action from the post; membership denied to anyone with a criminal record, discipline problem in school and not meeting academic standard.


Veterans’ Day Mass

Mass for Veterans’ Day will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 11 at 12:05 p.m. at Saint Paul Church, One Saint Paul Place, Cranston. The Mass, celebrated by Fr. Thomas Woodhouse, will feature enhanced musical selections played by Music Director Jason Hervieux. Everyone, especially all veterans, are invited and encouraged to attend. Please consider inviting a veteran you know to come to Mass along with you.  Come let us give glory to God and thanks to those who served our great country.


Halloween at Roger Williams Park Botanical Garden

Stop by Roger Williams Park Botanical Garden on Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a day of family-friendly Halloween fun. Come dressed as a plant-inspired costume to participate in their costume contest. There will be Halloween themed crafts and a plant sale. Purchase timed admission tickets at providenceri.gov/botanical-center/. General admission is $5, children (ages 6-12), seniors (65+) and military (with ID) are $2, children under six are free and Roger Williams Park Botanical Garden members are free.


Who Dunnit?

Join Clouds Hill Victorian House Museum (4157 Post Road, Warwick) from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 5 for a who dunnit mystery. Prohibition has returned to Warwick and the guests at the Slater Club find themselves in the middle of an investigation. Clues and chaos abound. Can you figure out the murder? Admission is $5 per person.


Halloween at the Huddle

Join OneCranston Health Equity Zone on Oct. 27 for Halloween at the Huddle Center (700 Gansett Ave., Cranston). The event will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.


Candy Cane Bazaar 

St. Joseph Church will host a Candy Cane Bazaar on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 5-6. The Bazaar will feature a giant raffle, penny social, baked goods, jams & jellies, gifts in a jar, jewelry, gift baskets, books, puzzles, locally made honey, a “This & That Room,” American Girl Doll clothes, towels, aprons, soaps and oils. The kitchen will be open each day. The bazar will be held from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5, and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 6, at the church. St. Joseph Church is located at 144 Danielson Pike, North Scituate.  


EG Art Club Meeting

The East Greenwich Art Club will meet at the East Greenwich United Methodist Church, 1558 South County Trail, East Greenwich, on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. Award-winning, Rhode Island Contemporary Impressionist painter, Julie Brayton, will demonstrate her oil painting techniques and discuss the creative process as she paints a local garden scene. Her paintings are based on the sea, nature and animals. She will show how she uses expressive color to create the atmospheric effects of light on color. The meeting is free and open to the public. Photography Exhibit

Ed Rondeau, a longtime Edgewood resident and retired Cranston teacher and administrator, will be displaying his photography at the Cranston Central Library, 140 Sockanosset Cross Road, throughout the month of November. Ed’s extensive experience in visual arts – theatre direction, set design, sculptor in steel and now photography continues to demonstrate his love of and commitment to visual art. The exhibit will also include work by his grandson, Nicholas Paolino and longtime friend, Terrence J. Boylan.

Nicholas is a graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School with a B.A. in Graphic Design and M.A. in Communication from Merrimack College. Nick is an experienced photographer, videographer, graphic designer with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry within departments of communication and marketing.

Terry’s 50 year career in education ranged from elementary school principal to university professor. His work in photography has been seen in galleries and shows in Rhode Island, Marblehead and Cape Cod.

The exhibit runs from Nov. 1 to Nov. 29 with a reception on Wednesday, Nov. 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.


Ward 3 Holiday Tree Lighting

There will be a tree lighting at 5 p.m. on Dec. 4 at Governor Sprague Mansion hosted by Councilman John Donegan and the Cranston Historical Society.


Wicked Woods Pumpkin Walk

Stroll through Rocky Point Farm’s enchanting pumpkin path and enjoy over 300 candle lit, hand carved pumpkins. Trail is lined with jack-o’-lanterns, tiki torches and camp fires. Watch our living statues and collect a Halloween treat! This non scary event is perfect for young children and their families. Bring at least one small flashlight for your group. Trail is cleared of sticks and the grass is mowed, but there are some bumpy areas along the way. Great Fun for the whole family! Oct. 27-30, Trail open 6 – 9:15pm. Ghost Party

Join Jared the magician and mentalist at 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 at Governor Sprague Mansion for the Cranston Historical Society’s annual Charlie the Butler Ghost Party fundraising event. Costumes are optional – no Halloween masks. Tickets are $20 for non-members and $17 for Cranston Historical Society members. Individuals can have their tarot or psychic future read by fortune tellers for a separate fee. There will be light refreshments. Stranger Things Totally 80s

Celebrate all Things Strange in this hour-long craft and snack program on Oct. 29 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Cranston’s Central Library. This program is intended for kids in grades 4-8. Participants will be able to craft like it's 1986 at different stations (including a waffle-making station).


Monster Mash Family Storytime

Cranston Public Library’s Auburn Branch will hold a monster mash family storytime at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 29. There will be stories, songs and rhymes all about monsters. This family storytime is geared toward children ages two to eight and their caregivers, but all are welcome. Space is limited and registration is required. If weather permits, this storytime will begin outdoors and then participants will go indoors to make snacks. Halloween Touch a Truck

The Rotary Club of Cranston will host its Halloween Touch a Truck event on Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Garden City Center. Come explore big trucks along with crafts, face painting, balloon animals and more. Halloween costumes are encouraged. $10 donation per family.


Trunk or Treat

Cranston’s Parks and Recreation Department will host a Trunk or Treat event at the Pastore parking lot (155 Gansett Ave., Cranston) on Oct. 30 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. For questions or if you’re interested in participating by bringing your own ‘trunk,’ please contact Regina Lynch at 780-6169 and leave a message, or email her at rlynch@cranstonri.org.


Flu Shot Clinic

Cranston Public Schools’ flu shot clinic will run for October and November. This is a community clinic for ages three and up. The clinic will be held at the following places: Western Hills Middle School (400 Phenix Ave.) Nov. 1 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the gym; Park View Middle School (256 Park View Blvd.) on Nov. 9 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. Author Presentation at Brown University

Three Small Ways to Live Your Biggest Life

Cranston Public Library welcomes Wendy Z Lewis, author of Jump in the Holes and Other Small Ways to Live Your Biggest Life, to Central Library on Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m.

Lewis will share the curious story of her blog-turned-book and discuss “Three Small Ways to Live Your Biggest Life” and read selections from her book, sign copies, and give away a free copy to one lucky attendee.

On the Tracks to a Train Show

Rhode Island Model Train Expo sponsored by the Little Rhody Division of the National Model Railroad Association will be held Sunday, Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Guy L. Lefebvre Community Center, 1277 Main St., Coventry. The show features operating layouts in N, HO, O, and G scales. There will be select vendor tables. Tickets are $6 for adults and children under 12 and Scouts in uniform are free. There is a $20 maximum per family.


Used Book Sale

The Cranston Public Library’s used book sale returns Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the William Hall Library. Thousands of fiction and non-fiction books, in hardback and paperback, will be available to purchase as well as CDs, DVDs, children’s books, and cookbooks, in excellent condition. All CDs, DVDs, and adult books are $1 and kids & teen books are 50 cents each. Cash is preferred but credit cards will also be accepted. 100 percent of the proceeds from the book sale help support library resources and programs.


Holiday Bazaar

On Nov. 5 and Nov. 6, St. Francis Xavier Church will hold a holiday bazaar. There will be a Christmas booth, attic treasures, silent auction, hand knit items, baked goods, kids corner, raffle baskets and more. The event will take place at 81 No. Carpenter St., East Providence. The bazaar runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 5 and from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 6.


Craft and Vendor Show

St. Mary’s Feast Society Ladies’ Auxiliary will host its annual Holiday Craft and Vendor Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 12. There will be vendors, crafters, handmade items, baked goods, raffles, food and more.


Young Musicians Scholarship

The Music on the Hill scholarship directly supports the study of classical music performance. Awards will be disbursed directly to the winner’s designated instructor, ensemble program, summer opportunity, school, conservatory or college music fee. The first prize includes $400 and a performance opportunity in Music on the Hill’s 2023 festival. The second prize is $200. Applicants must be Rhode Island residents between ages 13 and 18. This scholarship includes all instruments and voice. Chamber groups may apply together and share the prize. The application includes a four to eight minute recorded video audition. Warwick Rotary 5k Turkey Trot

Come together at the Warwick City Park Ball Fields on Thanksgiving Day to benefit the Kent Hospital Employee Emergency Fund. Race registration begins at 7:15 a.m. and the trot begins at 8 a.m. There will also be a costume contest! Prizes will be awarded to the best costume, most original, and best dressed family/group. Please bring one non-perishable food item per person plus $20 for adults, $15 for students (ages 6-18), kids 5 and under no charge with a paid adult, $50 for family (2 adults & 2 students), $20 for virtual runners. Veterans Day Parade

The City of Cranston will once again hold its Veterans Day Parade at 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 11. The parade will kick off in front of Legion Bowl on Park Avenue, continue past City Hall up to Heyward Street and past Rolfe Street. Park View Veterans Day 5K Run/Walk

The ninth annual 2022 Park View Veterans Day 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Kids Run, an annual event designed to bring honor and recognition to Veterans Day, will be held at Roger Williams Park on Friday, Nov. 11. Proceeds from the event will benefit programs for the school throughout the year and as a means of giving back to a worthwhile cause, Operation Stand Down RI.

The One Mile Kids Run will take place in the Park on a specially designed course. This race will begin at 8:30 a.m. The race is open to all elementary and middle school students. Cost for this race is $10 (T-shirts to the first 50 entries for this race).

Start and finish of the 5k race at the Park Avenue entrance to Roger Williams Park across from Park View Middle School. The 5k starts at 9:30 a.m.

T-shirts to the first 500 entries for the 5k race. Post-race food and beverages will be served. Awards are given to the top male and female finisher. Awards to the top men and women in each division: 8th grade and under, high school division, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+.

Packet Pick up will be at the Park View Middle School Gym, Thursday, Nov. 10, from 3-5 p.m. Race day registration and pickup begins at 7 a.m.

Join Phillips’ Chime Choir

Phillips Memorial Baptists Church (565 Pontiac Ave.) is looking for children ages six to 10 who are interested in participating in a Chime Choir led by Minister of Music Martha Sobaje. Need Christmas Help?

Families residing in Coventry, Cranston, Scituate, Warwick and West Warwick in need of Christmas help may apply for assistance from Little Free Pantry in Warwick by Nov. 26. Our goal is to provide one to three items per child: value of your gifts range from $5 to $35 dollars as this is a helping hand. We do our best to help as many as we can, we do not guarantee help. The application process is simple. Please send us a message with the following information.

  1. Your Name, a picture/copy of a recent utility bill in your name (your photo ID will be required at pick up) please block out account numbers, we just need to verify address and name. We can not accept people signing up for others, your Facebook name must be similar to your real name.
  2. For each child up to age 17, Child name (first name only), age, gender and wish list or a list of likes (of mixed value max $35 per item). You must provide a list because we can not fill requests without it. Please note we will consider children over age 17 with special needs, please PM us in regards to our requirements. No requests for gift cards/tickets, as well as any video games/systems (exception would be inexpensive headphones and accessories) will be honored.
  3. List of other programs you have signed up for, or intend to sign up for.
  4. Due to dishonesty about children, we now require birth certificate at pick up, your ID must match one of the parents listed on the birth certificate. Exception for those with legal custody paperwork will be required. This for visual inspection in person only!

While we never ask for income verification and reserve the right to ask for additional information for children as you may only sign up your children that live with you full time. Our pick up location is in Warwick, near RT 37. We provide this information when pick up times are arranged. This is borrowed space afforded to us by a local business in which we are allowed to use after business hours.


Humans of Cranston Nominations

OneCranston Health Equity Zone is starting a new initiative with the Cranston Herald and local photographer Timothy McFate called Humans of Cranston; they will be interviewing Cranston residents to gain a deeper understanding of and celebrate those who live here. Those interviewed will be featured in a new column and on OCHEZ social media. Open Juried Exhibit

The Warwick Center for the Arts is holding its 36th annual RI Open Juried Exhibit from Oct. 1 to Nov. 12 at 3259 Post Road, Warwick. The show consists of a variety of media and subject matter and is juried by Paula Martiesian. Martiesian has exhibited extensively around RI and is an award-winning advocate for the arts and artists. Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Come join the “Rocky Point Pacers” for a walk around Rocky Point every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9 a.m., weather permitting. They meet at the gate on Rocky Point Avenue.
