Johnston’s Town Republican Committee holds signature party

Posted

On a recent beautiful summer morning, Saturday, July 9, the Johnston Town Republican Committee (JTRC) held a Signature Party in Johnston.

“This is an exciting time for change,” said Nick Grasso, the Vice Chairman of the JRTC.  “All four representative districts in Johnston will have a race, with three Republicans and one Independent giving the residents of Johnston a choice that, for many years, they simply did not have. Our constituents are not represented well when incumbents are not challenged year after year.”

Grasso is gathering signatures for Representative for District 43 for Johnston.

Also for the Republican ticket, Harold Borders Jr. is gathering signatures to be a Representative for District 42, which includes Johnston and Cranston. Peter Trementozzi III, is also gathering signatures to be a Representative for District 44 which includes Johnston, Smithfield, and Lincoln. Ivan Montanez is gathering signatures as an Independent to be a Representative for District 13 which includes Johnston and Providence.

The JRTC also welcomed a few statewide candidates: former Cranston Mayor Allan Fung, who is gathering signatures for Congressional District 2, Paul Pence who is seeking the Lt. Governor office, and James Lathrop who is running for General Treasurer. All are running as Republicans.

The Johnston Republican Town Committee Chairwoman Sandra Taylor had this to say: “Change is coming and it starts at the local level with Grassroots committees and volunteers that are getting out and spreading the word.  These candidates we have are looking to make positive changes for Johnston and the State of Rhode Island. Our recent Rhode Island Republican Convention was lively and hasn’t felt energy like this before.”

The JRTC held a meeting on Wednesday, July 27, at the VFW, 1418 Plainfield Pike, Cranston, with parking in the back. At 6:30 p.m., all Republican candidates were welcomed to speak to the committee and its guests. The assembled group planned to learn about the candidates are and what their plans are for the future of Johnston or the State of Rhode Island. Endorsements will likely follow.
