Rhode Island College junior and Cranston native Jenna Lisi was named the Jill Craybas Award winner for the third straight season.

The Craybas Award is given to Rhode Island’s top female collegiate tennis player annually.

Lisi had another stellar campaign for the Anchorwomen last season. She was named the Little East Women’s Tennis Co-Player of the Year and First Team All-Little East in both singles and doubles. Lisi was 12-0 at the top singles sport and went 13-1 at No. 1 doubles. She was also named Little East Player of the Week three times.

RIC went 16-1 overall and 8-0 in the Little East, which was good for first place. The Anchorwomen won the program’s seventh-straight LEC regular season championship. The No. 1-seeded Anchorwomen defeated No. 2-seeded Bridgewater State, 5-1, in the finals to clinch their fifth straight, and 11th overall, Little East Tournament title on Oct. 23.

RIC would later fall 5-0 to Johns Hopkins in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

“I was definitely surprised to get it for the third time. Each time feels more appreciated. It’s one of those things where you really don’t know what’s going to happen,” said Lisi, who will be receiving the award later this month at the Hall of Fame in Newport. “To get it at the Hall of Fame is special since it hasn’t happened in the past two years, so it is going to make it more exciting for me. It feels different now that this is my third year and it’s a signifying moment that I only have one more year in school and it’s coming to an end. It means a lot to me.”

With another huge season individually and as a group, Lisi hopes the team will come out strong for one last ride next year when she is a senior.

“We’re still going. I think that that has been our biggest strength - our consistency. Our depth and our ladder is our biggest asset. From No. 1 with me to our No. 6 singles player, we are strong individually. We have chemistry with each other and the depth is there which most schools don’t have. Our coach is always recruiting talent and that is what keeps our depth alive,” Lisi said.

Lisi also hopes to have one more chance to compete in the NCAA tournament with her teammates.

“For me, it’s always about the team. Any individual recognition is great, but my goal is for the team to win the conference and reach the NCAA tournament again. It’s a great experience, it’s a lot of fun to get to do. That type of moment is pivotal for our team and doing that again will only bring us closer for the future,” said Lisi.
