Nancy Elizabeth (Colwell) Mowry, 93, of 22 Ingersoll Avenue, Warwick, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025. She was the loving wife of the late Robert James Mowry.
Born in Johnston on September 12, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Chester B. Colwell, who served as Chief of Police in Johnston for 29 years prior to his death in 1959, and the late Elizabeth S. Colwell.
Nancy had been a Warwick resident since 1952, and was employed as a Cartographer at the Army Map Service from 1952 to 1953. She later received her Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising Design and her Master’s Degree in Art Education from the Rhode Island School of Design. She also attended the University of Rhode Island and Bridgewater State College. Nancy was the co-founder of Ceramics by Nancy Mowry Studios and the co-founder and operator of Liz Ann Ceramics in Johnston. Nancy was a longtime member of Friendship Baptist Church in Warwick.
She was the mother of the late Lance Lee Mowry and sister of the late Elizabeth “Betty” Russo.
Nancy is survived by her beloved nephews, Paul Russo, Karl Russo, and Kyle Russo, and her dear friend, Kathie Feeney.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 11:00AM at THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the Funeral Home from 10:00AM-11:00AM. Interment will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Warwick.
