O’Rourke’s Bar and Grill sits along the Pawtuxet River bridge on the Warwick side of the historic village, attracting the locals to their favorite watering hole.
On a warm spring evening last week, we returned to the cozy historic spot, joining a huge crowd on the large patio, where we could watch the planes making their descent to TF Greene, the motorcycles parading through the village and families walking their dogs.
The good news is that little has changed. Friendly service, good food at reasonable prices, cold beer and good odds at meeting your neighbors still prevail.
The inside bar is full, as are the tables for those preferring to eat inside.
Joyce’s favorite appetizer, O’Rourke’s famous Irish nachos, hasn’t changed. Made with potato chips and loaded with bacon, tomato, cheese and all of those garnishes that make it so good, it is a dish that could be shared as an appetizer for four or be a meal in itself.
I craved the fish and chips, finding two huge pieces of fish on my plate along with cole slaw, and tartar sauce. I substituted onion rings for french fries. They were huge, crunchy and great.
Tacos, burgers and a fabulous Reuben are highlights of the menu, along with the popular fish taco.
Closed on Mondays, O’Rourke’s at 23 Peck Lane in Pawtuxet Village is the place to chill out this summer. You can view their menu at orourkesbarandgrill.com.
