There will be a pasta dinner at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church (111 West Shore Rd., Warwick) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 17. The menu includes pasta, homemade sauce, meatballs, sausage, salad, bread, assorted desserts, coffee, tea and water. Soda will be available for an added cost. The cost for adults is $12.00, children (6-11) are $6 and kids 5 and under are free. There will be a 50/50 Raffle and the church is handicap accessible. The annual Conimicut Village-Wide Yard Sale is scheduled for Sept. 17 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (rain date Sept. 18). There are 47 homes participating throughout the village. The map is available for download on www.conimicut.org and on the Conimicut Village Facebook page. There will also be hard copies of the map available by 8 a.m. on Saturday at the corner of Beach and West Shore. Come and shop until you drop!

Items for purchase include housewares, books, jigsaw puzzles, dishes, clothing, jewelry and children’s items. The lunch menu includes meatball sandwiches and hot dogs. Bake sale items include cookies, breads, brownies, blueberry cake and more.
The Edgewood Garden Club will hold a Bake & Plant Sale on Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Pawtuxet Village Farmers Market, in the Shriner’s parking lot at One Rhodes Place, off Broad Street in Edgewood.
The club will be selling home-baked goods, notecards created by members, colorful chrysanthemums and perennial plants dug from members’ gardens. Those include hardy natives well-suited for local growing conditions such as joe pye weed and coneflowers, as well as plants to perk up garden beds like lavender, iris, and prickly pear.
Proceeds from the sale will help fund the club’s activities and ongoing civic beautification projects at Stillhouse Cove, the Village Playground and William Hall Library. The club was established in 1933 and will soon celebrate its 90th year improving Edgewood and Pawtuxet Village parks and streets, providing gardening education to the public and promoting floral design and horticulture. Warwick Central Baptist Church across from Warwick City Hall in Apponaug will hold their fall festival Saturday, Sept. 24 starting at noon and running to 4 p.m. The free festival will feature live music, games, food and crafts including pumpkins, mask masking and face painting. There will be a community meeting with Warwick Police at 6 p.m. on Sept. 12 in City Council Chambers (3275 Post Road, Warwick). The purpose of the meeting is to discuss recent break-ins to vehicles in the community and receive updates and suggestions from police on how best to protect ourselves from this type of crime. The East Greenwich Art Club is having a Plein Air event, “Capturing the Past,” at the New England Wireless & Steam Museum (1300 Frenchtown Road, East Greenwich 02818) on Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All artists are invited to spend the day painting or drawing or choose whatever medium to create a work of art. Warwick Center for the Arts will host “Abstract Intuitive Painting” on the first Thursday of October, November and December from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Individuals will learn to select colors intuitively and apply various textures and marks to a wood panel using a variety of materials to create an 11x14 abstract acrylic painting on a wood panel. Join East Greenwich Art Club at the East Greenwich Recreation Center, 1127 Frenchtown Road, East Greenwich, for its “Drawing the Line,” workshop on Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Local, professional artist, Mi Ok Song will be the instructor. Her drawings of the human figure and animals are done with colored pens on paper. They reflect the harmony between humans and nature in a whimsical, representational and playful manner. Using pencils, pens, charcoal, colored pens and colored pencils, on paper, you will learn how to draw a definitive, confident line to create a drawing. Song will discuss how to utilize composition, prospective, proportion and negative space. She will also discuss values, darks, lights, shadows, foreground, middle ground and background. You will also learn how to create animals, objects, portraits, self-portraits and landscapes.
East Greenwich Art Club will hold a “Painting with Gouache” workshop at the East Greenwich Recreation Center, 1127, Frenchtown Road, East Greenwich. This two-day workshop will take place Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon and on Oct. 1 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Contemporary realist, Lorena Pugh, will spend the first day instructing how to use gouache, an opaque, watercolor medium. Participants will do practice experiments to get a feel for and create a small painting. The second day will be working in the plein air park area behind the East Greenwich Recreation Center. In case of inclement weather, we will work from a still life inside the building, using black boxes. Participants may bring whatever still life items they want to paint.
The Rhode Island Art Educators Exhibit will run from Aug. 27 to Sept. 24 at the Warwick Center for the Arts (3259 Post Road, Warwick). This second annual Rhode Island Art Educators Exhibit is an opportunity for students, colleagues, patrons, friends and family to recognize and celebrate Rhode Island's Art Educators' own art. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island (BBBSRI) will host its annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake (BFKS), on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lang’s Bowlarama in Cranston.
Bowl for Kids’ Sake is the fun and easy way for individuals and companies to make an impact on the local community — it only takes a little bit of effort to raise the money that is vital to our program’s success. Fundraising teams collect donations and then celebrate their success by attending a local bowling party.
There are two ways to support Bowl For Kids' Sake: One, individuals can sign up in teams of five to participate in a private bowling party, and raise donations from family, friends and colleagues leading up to the event — with a fundraising goal of $100 for each participant ($500 per team). The Comprehensive Community Action Plan is holding a free, virtual teacher assistant training program from Oct. 17 to Oct. 27. Bring Your Own Improv and the Warwick Center for the Arts have a common interest in educating youth. It is with that in mind that BYOI created a program in 2014 for teens, to teach them improv as well as self-confidence and problem-solving skills. The Youth Collective meets every Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Warwick Center for the Arts. For each two-month session, youth take four weeks of workshops followed immediately by four weeks of shows.
Youth must be between the ages of 13 and 18 and no previous experience is required. Parental permission is required. The $245 fee must be paid in order to hold a youth’s spot. The workshops include lessons, the shows and free admission to the 7 p.m. shows for participants. WCFA Members may purchase the workshops at a rate of $195. Memberships are $35 for an individual and $50 for a family of four. Please contact us about becoming a WCFA Member today. This will be the last session offered until January 2023. Are you a fan of listening to podcasts? Do you have a lot of technical skills you would like to apply to a great community resource? The library has its own weekly podcast, Warwick Radio Online, and is building a team to help run it.
Warwick Radio Online (https://warwicklibrary.org/warwick-radio-online-4) highlights the wonderful things that make Warwick great from community resources to opportunities for entertainment to the background and history of the city. They are looking for folks who would like to be technicians to operate the recording studio and edit episodes of the show, on-air talent to serve as hosts of episodes, or managers to supervise and schedule podcast episodes. Those interested can serve in one or all of these roles. Tasks could include recording content in the studio, hosting/co-hosting, interviewing, scriptwriting, editing sound, and experience with Apple computers and the GarageBand audio-editing software. Experience would be helpful, but the library can also help you learn the skills you would need to work on the podcast.

Do you have a passion and desire to make a difference in your community? Westbay Community Action’s ‘Marketplace,’ the second largest food pantry in RI, needs volunteers who are interested in a fun and rewarding experience working with like-minded people. Volunteers 17 years or older will be stocking shelves, unpacking trucks and helping individuals with picking up their food. The Warwick Men’s Church Bowling League is in need of some new bowlers. The league was established in 1951 and is still bowling duckpin at the Meadowbrook Bowling Alley in Warwick. The group bowls on Tuesday nights from September until April. A weekly fee of $15 provides three games of bowling, small events and a banquet at the end of the season with cash prizes.
