Patricia Gail Brady, 85, known to her many friends as “Gail,” passed away peacefully on September 15, 2022, at Saint Elizabeth Home in East Greenwich. She was the loving daughter of the late Sophie (Kwiatkowski) Brady and George F. Brady of Providence.
Gail lived most of her adult life in Warwick, teaching in the Warwick School Department for 32 years. First as a second and third grade teacher and later as the district’s reading specialist, she positively impacted the lives of thousands of students. Gail was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School and Rhode Island College. She also received her master’s degree from the University of Connecticut.
Gail cultivated many strong friendships and became family to her friends and their children. She never forgot a birthday or a holiday (a card with her good wishes would always arrive in the mail) and was in high demand to share holidays with her friends and their families. She always arrived with a fun surprise for the occasion — a dancing Santa, exquisite chocolates and, of course, treats for the dog.
The year Gail spent teaching in Germany as a young woman ignited a lifelong passion for travel, and she took numerous trips to visit friends and see new places. Gail loved the theater and had season tickets to PPAC, Trinity and Theatre by the Sea and was always eager to discuss the latest show she had seen. She also loved to read and participated avidly in numerous book clubs.
Gail was a delightful person to spend time with. A great conversationalist, Gail was always up to date on current events, the best new restaurants, and Rhode Island happenings. More importantly, she was a loving, caring listener and a true friend.
Gail’s dog Bridget was her constant companion for many years, followed by Patches during her later years. All of her neighbors knew Gail and her dogs from their many walks around their neighborhood. She was heartbroken when she could no longer care for Patches and saw that he was adopted by loving friends when she moved to assisted living.
Even when facing significant health challenges over the past few years, Gail never complained and was unfailingly pleasant and appreciative to her caregivers. She stayed positive and thought of others, teaching by example until the very end. She will be missed.
