PJ’s Pub celebrates 14 years

Posted

PJ’’s Pub will hold its 14 year anniversary celebration with a DJ, ice cream bar, ice luge and more on April 1 from 7 p.m. till 1 a.m.

Though it opened its doors in November and not April, Co-owner Paul W. Voigt said that due to weather and staffing they decided to postpone the event. Voigt said a large tent will be set up in the parking lot and he and the other owner, John Krikorian, have arranged a host of fun for those who swing by.

“We do the party every year,” Voigt explained. “Every year people love it but it’s cold. DJ Naughty, who is our friend, will be with us for the party. He’s done a handful of events with us over the years.”

Naughty will begin his show starting about 8 p.m. with music inside and outside the pub. Music isn’t the only treat those attending can expect to find though. Ben and Jerry’s will be hosting an ice cream table under the tent, a couple of ice luges will be chilling shots of fireball and Mancini Beverages will be helping out while doing some promotion and arranging some giveaways.

“We’ve got a slider bar of sloppy joes, pulled pork and chicken that’ll be set up outside too,” Voigt said. “There’s no cover charge and a cash bar will be set up outside. It’s going to be a big bash just to kind of celebrate. We usually decorate with balloons and tablecloths. We try to dress things up real nice, because we want people to have fun and enjoy themselves.”

With 14 years in business, over 25 flavors of wings and a variety of daily specials PJ’s has been a Cranston staple for quite some time. Whether it's Build a Burger Tuesday, where you can build your own burger for $5, Wednesday’s two pizzas and two Bud Lights for $16.50 or Friday’s calzones and fries for $12, there are a variety of reasons for those who haven’t been in to stop by and try it out.

“We serve food every day until 1 a.m.,” Voigt said proudly. “As much as it killed us in COVID times and made it difficult to find staff. We like to call ourselves a high-volume pub. I know a lot of local places serve food as late as 11, maybe 12, but we serve right up till we close.”

New items like chicken and waffles and a meatloaf sandwich have recently come to the menu at PJ’s, along with some classics that left the menu and have now returned. So if you’re missing an old favorite it’s time to check out the new menu which was unveiled last Wednesday. The new food isn’t alone, Voigt said that PJ’s has also added seven new martini’s to their already extensive cocktail list, and that they make efforts to update and change the menu quarterly.

With renovations coming in February it seems the menu isn’t the only thing to get regular updates. Voigt said that they try to update the style and look of PJ’s every four years “to keep up with the local crowd.”

PJ’s Pub may not be the only place you recognize Voigt and Krikorian name’s from. If you drive just a few minutes up the road you’ll find another of their business ventures The Gentleman’s Cigar Lounge. Open for almost six years, this Upscale cigar and cocktail bar is open every day starting at 4 p.m., and is soon to be followed, they hope, by a third restaurant that will be opening in Warwick.

“It’s called The Social House,” Voigt explained. “If all goes well it will be right on Post Road. in Apponaug. It’s going to be an upscale tapas and cocktail lounge. We’ve already gotten our liquor license, we just need to get the building permit and then we can get things started with our landlord. Our hope is to open in late spring or early summer.”

With a growing group of high-quality food at well cared for restaurants, PJ’s Pub’s 14th anniversary party is the perfect place to celebrate both the past and future of Voigt and Krikorian’s long years of work, and to grab a drink and raise a toast.
